An update on where I am at

Holding up a sign that says hello.

A quick intro

I haven’t always been a web developer; I worked at the bookmaker Ladbrokes for around seven years as a customer service advisor/manager.

Before this, I worked as an apprentice accounts executive at a digital agency and was always around developers and was always intrigued. Knowing that working at a bookmaker wasn’t the career for me, I decided to dabble in website development in my spare time and was quickly drawn in.

This led me to apply for a web development course at Manchester Metropolitan University.

This course not only taught me how to begin to think like and be a website developer but also other important aspects such as user experience and user interface design.

In my last year of university, I knew it would be help get my first web developer role if I could get some agency experience, which would also help me gain a better degree.

The tutors were great on this course and would industry professionals and past students who were now working full time. This is what led me to get in touch with Supremo.

During my last year of university, I would go in once or twice a week to Supremo and either learn from the team there or sometimes work on live projects. This experience was invaluable and taught me a whole lot.

First developer role

In 2020, I graduated from university with first-class honors, and it was Supremo who gave me my first shot in the industry as a junior web developer. I spent around 1 and a half years at Supremo working around a team of creative and talented people.

I first got introduced to WordPress here and immediately saw the potential of what can be done with it, both in the types of projects you can produce and the opportunity to work as a freelancer.

Spending most of my free time digging into WordPress, I remembered my time at Gooey Creative as an apprentice and looked into how they were doing and saw that they were looking for a WordPress developer and got in touch.

My role as a WordPress developer

Working at Gooey, whether it be building out a custom WordPress theme or fixing an issue on an existing website, you work on a diverse range of projects. They have a team full of talented and experienced developers in both WordPress and web development in general, so this was perfect for me.

They are a white-label agency, so you work on projects of all types with clients all over the world. Doing this in a fast-paced environment allows me to build WordPress sites both efficiently and pretty quickly.

What’s next?

Alongside my full-time job at Gooey, I will continue to dig into WordPress as well as explore new technologies and skills. It will also be good to brush up on my writing skills by talking about any new learnings and tips in new blog posts.

Lets work together

Feel free to send me an email with more information about your project or fill out the contact form on the contact page. I look forward to hearing from you.
